All model 1873’s manufactured after serial number 525923 are considered modern and are subject to all the BATF Federal guide lines including back ground checks.
There were over 720,000 Model 1873 Winchester ‘s manufactured .
The longest barrel length known on a Model 1873 is 37 inches .
The shortest known barrel length on a Model 1873 is 12 inches .
The standard length for a Model 1873 Rifle is 24 inches
Special order barrels were made from 26 — 28 –30–32– 34 –36 -37 inches.
Special order finishes were available from Winchester in Nickel , Silver, Gold , Silver and Gold ,Blue and Case color.
There were 136– 1 of 1000 Winchester 73 rifles manufactured .
There were 8—– 1 of 100 Winchester 73 rifles manufactured
Short rifles were made with 20 — 21– 22 –23–24 inch barrels .
The standard length barrel for a Model 73 Carbine is 20 inches
Winchester trappers were made with barrels from 12 to 20 inches with 15 inches being the most common.
Winchesters with engraving are quite rare with engraving priced from 50 cents to 5.00 dollars .
Engraving prices were 50 and 75 cents –1.00– 1.50–1.75— 2.00 –2.50–3.00 –3.50–4.00 –5.00 –6.00 –7.00–8.00 and 9.00 ..You get get amount of engraving at any price you wanted by quotes from Winchester .
Deluxe guns were made with 2 –3 — 4 X wood in either pistol grip or straight stock all are considered special order.
Musket were made in Model 73 Winchesters and most were shipped to South America.
Winchester Model 73’s with 7 leaf express sights were manufactured for the India and South Africa markets and are hard to find today in the United States today.
The first Winchester Model 73 Winchester’s had thumb print dust covers with 5 different ones made in the first and early second model 73’s .
Winchester 73’s were manufactured in the following caliber’s –22 short –22 long –32-20–38-40–44-40 .
